Visitors

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are remaining flexible in how we worship together. While some have chosen to come back in person, we also provide live-stream and recorded services available on our Facebook page and YouTube. Feel free to check them out! If you choose to worship in-person, below is a rough idea of what to expect.

What to Expect

We welcome everyone to our worship and our hope is that each of us will experience the presence of God as we worship together. The services are held at 10 AM each Sunday in our magnificent sanctuary. We encourage new visitors to contact the pastor before or after your visit with any questions you might have.

What to Wear

There isn’t any dress code when we come together to worship God. At First Presbyterian you will see people in very casual clothes, some in dresses or suits and ties, and everything in between. Please come in whatever is comfortable for you.

Parking

Often first-time visitors don’t realize that there is a parking lot behind the church building. You can enter from Washington Ave, where a small sign indicates the entrance. There are also several parking spaces (including handicapped parking) in front of the church on Jackson Street. If you park on Jackson Street the main doors to the sanctuary are right there. If you park in the parking lot you can walk to the main entrance or go to the far east side of the parking lot and enter through the office door. Inside that door you will see a ramp that leads up to the sanctuary.

Worship Services

Worship is held at 10 AM each Sunday in the sanctuary. Our worship is mostly traditional, although the pastor doesn’t wear a robe. We sing hymns from two different hymn books (one blue and the other gray). The gray hymnal contains some more contemporary hymns.

We serve communion on the first Sunday of each month. Everyone is invited to the Lord’s Table, regardless of what denomination you may be a part of. We hold the elements and all take them at the same time.

As you enter the sanctuary you will be welcomed and given a worship bulletin for the morning’s service. Before or after the service we would appreciate it if you would register your presence with us in the Visitors Book that is on a stand in the rear of the sanctuary, or on one of the visitor cards in the pews. If you leave your name and phone number or email address we will get in touch with you to welcome you and to answer any questions you might have.

Children and Childcare

We love having children in worship. We think it is helpful for children to have experience of what worship is like and what it is about. Children are able to sit with their families for the first part of the service and then a church staff member will accompany them for a time of learning and fun activities. Please let us know if your child has any allergies or medical issues.

There is a changing table in the restroom that is on your left as you enter the building from Jackson Street.

What Happens After Church

Following the worship service we encourage you to join us for refreshments and a social time. As you face the front of the sanctuary you will notice that there is a door on each side. To get to the coffee hour follow the others who are going through the door the right. Delicious treats are served with coffee and tea, and this is a great opportunity to meet some new and interesting people.
